Callan Park frontage along Balmain Rd. Possible route for a Bicycle and Pedestrian Boulevard..
A long-standing quest of Bike Leichhardt has been for a safe bike connection between Leichhardt and Rozelle. Some of this has been achieved, such as the shared path from Leichhardt Secondary College at Moore St to the City West Link, and bike lanes marked on the section Parramatta Rd to Leichhardt St.
A major “missing link”, around 800m in length, is between Wharf Rd and Cecily St, along the Callan Park frontage (including the Ambulance HQ frontage).
Bike Leichhardt wrote several submissions on bike access to and through the Park, all calling for a link along the Balmain frontage.
The former Leichhardt Council had preliminary talks with the Callan Park authority at the time, but these lapsed when Amalgamation into the Inner West Council occurred in 2016-18.
The current Callan Park Authority (Greater Sydney Parklands) developed a Landscape Structure Plan in 2018-22, which showed a “Boulevard” along the frontage,(p56, vision 3), but this was not funded in the first four year implementation program.
A new Draft Plan of Management and a Transport and Access Plan have been released for public comment- deadline 29 October 2025. Unfortunately, there is no “Bicycle Boulevard” shown, and it is stated that both Inner West Council and Transport for NSW opposed a path-“saw no need for it”.

Please ask them to build the Bicycle Boulevard along Balmain Rd.
